Since 2009, Vaden Custom has renovated dozens of commercial buildings throughout Western North Carolina, bringing new life into relics that become warm, bright places of business. If you drink or dine in Asheville, you have likely experienced our work.
Our team has extensive experience working with dated structures, including many in Asheville’s flood plain, Central Business District, and South Slope. We are skilled in navigating the rules, regulations, and process involved in complex renovations. This experience, local knowledge, and dedication to superior results makes us well poised to help our clients stay on target and on budget throughout their entire projects.
We value collaboration and prefer to be involved with every step of a project, beginning at the design phase, to lend our expertise, experience, and eye for detail.

After graduating with a Natural Resource degree from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, Blake worked as carpenter and woodworker in Colorado and Vermont. In 2008, he moved back to the Southeast to start his family, establish his contracting business, and continue developing his woodworking skills. He was eager to take advantage of the abundance of local hardwoods in the Appalachian Mountains, where he had spent most of his life.
In Asheville, Blake founded Vaden Custom Builders, and has spent over a decade filling a unique niche as general contractor AND fine woodworking shop – Blake and his team work to help conceptualize and then realize visions to repurpose commercial buildings, and simultaneously to design, build, and install custom furniture for commercial projects as well as homes.
You can find Blake's signature style featured in some of Asheville’s best breweries and restaurants, including Table, All Day Darling, Bhramari Brewing, Wicked Weed, The Funkatorium, and Hi Wire Brewing. Blake is also known for working closely with residential clients in Western North Carolina and nationally to design and build custom doors, cabinets, tables, and other unique pieces, ensuring that each piece perfectly complements its individual space. Blake prefers to be hands-on throughout the entire process, often beginning with the milling of locally harvested logs. He uses clear finishes and artistic joinery to both preserve and highlight the true beauty of the wood.
When he’s not working, Blake can be found hanging with his wife and two sons in their beautiful home (a 1920s craftsman that he renovated), taking the boys skateboarding in the RAD, sailing on mountain lakes in the Carolinas, snowboarding, mountain biking, and exploring the local trails (and occasionally drinking beer at one of his favorite spots around town).
